The Surround Air Intelli-Pro XJ-3800 Air Purifier boasts an activated carbon filter for trapping chemicals gases odors and cigarette smoke. The high-efficiency HEPA filter captures dust allergens and other solid particles (including bacteria). HEPA filters are recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Intelli-Pro XJ-3800 also features a germicidal UV lamp to destroy micro-organisms such as germs viruses fungi (such as mold) and bacteria. I came home from the hospital after having an asthma attack & decided to find an air purifier. I chose Surround Air and my breathing has been great ever since receiving it. Living in Florida my allergies are bad because of the humidity and now with lowering my thermostat and buying Surround I now have clean air to breathe. Thanks!

after reading about several different purifiers I went with this one based on rewiews and results of others that purchased it. I have had it for a few weeks and I am not dissappointed. I did a little light construction work in the room down in my finished basement and the unit was on auto and it cranked right up once it "smelled" the dust. Same thing with smoke, it is very sensitive to smoke and ramps up to clean the air with the 1st puff. This unit is great and I cant recommend it more.

The purifier has been in service in our house for about three months now.

The good stuff:
1) Multiple settings allow me to control the sound and power, or allow me to set and forget
2) Though I was at first skeptical, the dust/allergen/odor monitor seems to actually pick up these three menaces (since pollen season kicked up, the purifier has been working overtime trying to get all the junk out of the air)
3) The odor sensor/filter REALLY works. We have two young children, a cat, a dog, and a really old house. Yet somehow, when I go upstairs, I smell... nothing. It's heaven.
4) No heavy ozone effect
5) For our size house, it is able to cover the entire second floor (all the bedrooms)
6) The design is kind of space-agey... I've never seen an air purifier I'd want to display as an ornamental piece, but as far as looks go, it's about what I'd expect. Maybe a little better.
7) Multiple filters attack different air quality issues
8) Some cleanable, rather than replaceable, filters (money saver in the long run)

The not so good stuff:
1) This still seems seriously pricey... worth it for our household, but if it weren't for my son's chronic sinus infections, we probably would have chosen something less expensive
2) The dust/allergen/odor monitor sometimes it doesn't seem to pick up the dust/allergens I would expect it to, other times it goes crazy. The odor monitor is spot on though. It catches dog breath, me spraying perfume in another room... guess this is just a half negative
3) The purifier needs to be located a decent distance from the wall. If you are space restricted (like our house), this can position the purifier in the middle of a walkway.

Bottom line: I love this purifier and at this point would recommend it to anyone with severe allergy issues or with pet/smoke odors. Whether it's worth it to us in the long run will depend on how dependable it is over a longer period of time (Five years? Then absolutely!).

Service & Delivery comments:

The air purifier superstore was terrific. They almost over-communicated their receipt of my order, billing, shipping (hard to do, and a welcome change from some retailers). When I had a problem with my first unit they responded within 48 hours getting a FedEx label to out me and shipping a new unit as soon as it was stocked. I would have preferred a little over-communicating while I was waiting my second shipment, but overall, really terrific customer service.

So far so good, haven't sneezed since we got it. I have noticed a decrease of dust in the family room and kitchen. It is a little loud when it is on high. Cooked bacon last night and with it on auto mode it didn't detect the odor, had to increse the speed myself. Like the timer so I don't have to worrry about turing it off. Our house is very open, so I am buying another on for the other side. Only had it for about a week, so the jury is still out.

This unit does everything so simple just leave it on auto and it does the rest. my wife and use to wake in the morning coughing, post nasel drip and watery eyes,now we wake feeling refreshed. Now we are planning to order another one for the living,dining room kitchen area. AWSOME PRODUCT.Delivery took 6 days, took it right out of the box promgramed the sensors, went right to work, notice the difference in the air in about one hour.

Both my self and my wife smoke . This is the first air purifier that really does take out the smoke smell , you can feel it and smell it ( clean) . Just run it auto is all it takes . It worked great right out of the box . Don't konow about how the maintaince will be or how often since we just got this and started using it on christmas 2009 . But it does work very well and is very quiet on low and medium , you can hear the fan on high but it is not intrusive or annoying . there has been no crackeling or popping from the electro stactic cleaner . It just plain works .
